Back in 1969, Tony Laithwaite started out with a small van and the idea of bringing 'real' wines - wines of authenticity and character - directly to customers in the UK. Called Bordeaux Direct, Tony's original business had just one wine on the list and only 150 customers.
 
Over 40 years on we are now called Laithwaites. We are the largest Direct to Consumer Wine Merchant in the World but we are still very much a family run business. Tony's personality and his passion for delivering the very best value and service to our customers is at the heart of everything we do. We buy directly from wine producers, most of whom we've worked with for a very, very long time. More enjoyment per £ is what we offer, and it's why we are so successful.
 
We give outstanding service because we really want customers to enjoy not just our wine. We want all contacts with us to be a bit of a treat too. We are known for finding new wines – curiosities and rarities and for sharing the additional pleasures of wine with our customers. After all wine is so much more than just a tasty drink and we make sure that our customers get to enjoy every enriching experience with us.
 
We enjoy what we do! Working for Laithwaites is about pleasure – the pleasure of working for a great company, great colleagues and being secure in the knowledge that everyone is aiming for the same thing – providing great wines, and fantastic service. What could be better?
